CHARITY GOLF CHALLENGE REPORT -
36 HOLES ON 9 DIFFERENT COURSES IN 9 DIFFERENT COUNTIES IN ONE DAY - 07.07.2014

The Charity Golf Challenge to play 36 holes on 9 different courses in 9 different counties (using only 5 clubs!) all in one day took place on Monday, July 7th. This was to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and the New Icklesham Pavilion Fund.

An early rise was needed by the nine competitors - Bob Baker, Chris Baker, Steve Beale, Bill Beaumont, Ollie Beaumont, Tony Forster, Tim Linch, David Mayne and Hugh Sullivan - in order to be at the first hole on the first course at Slinfold near Horsham for a 5 a.m. tee-off.

After playing four holes it was on to courses at Chiddingfold in Surrey, Southwood in Farnborough, Hampshire, Datchet in Berkshire, Richings Park, Iver in Buckinghamshire, Stockley Pines in Uxbridge, Middlesex, the Nine of Herts, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, Mardyke Valley, South Ockendon in Essex and despite a few traffic delays the Weald of Kent Course in Headcorn was reached where the final putt was holed shortly after 9 p.m. This was followed by a welcome curry. It was a long, tiring but successful day and the co-operation of all the courses was greatly appreciated to enable the challenge to take place.

The club would like to give a massive thank you to everyone who supported through sponsorship and a list of all sponsors will be posted on the website in due course.

An initial calculation puts the amount raised around £1800. We are trying to increase this to above the £2000 mark so a further £1000 in matched sponsorship can be claimed for Macmillan Cancer Support. It is not too late if anyone would like to make a donation - please email the club at ickleshamcasualsfc@hotmail.com. A final figure will be advised in due course.

Sussex Junior Cup Winning 50-Year Reunion
The Robin Hood, Icklesham - Friday,25th April 2014

The reunion to mark the 50th anniversary of the winning of the Sussex Junior Cup in the 1963-64 season was held at the Robin Hood in Icklesham on Friday, 25th April. The side triumphed from an original entry of 168 teams by defeating Longley's of Crawley 2-0 in the final played at the Saffron's in Eastbourne and it is probably the highlight of the club's history to date.

Seven of the cup-winning side were present - Chris and David Ades, Jack Brown, Bill Burt, Bryan Butler, Mike Hills and captain George Potter as was Norman Hickman who played in a number of the earlier rounds. Of those missing Colin Relf was on holiday, no reply was received from Derek Perkins and goalkeeper Jim Brunger and midfielder George Noakes have both sadly died.

Also in attendance were officials, members and friends of the club including Sussex County Football Association and East Sussex Football League chairman, Eddie Potter.

It proved to be an enjoyable and successful evening with thanks to the Robin Hood for their hospitality.
